The International Humanitarian Relief Committee of the SSIO conducted its first International Diploma course in First Aid in Guatemala in early 2019. Online theoretical modules were offered from 5th January to 30th March, and practical, hands-on sessions were organised on 6th and 7th April 2019 by the volunteer fire station in Guatemala. Several topics, including basic principles in first aid, such as obstruction of the airway, recognition of vital signs and parameters, bleeding, soft tissue injuries, thermal injuries, traumatic injuries, burns, psychological help and post trauma treatment were covered. Participants included 32 people from Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Colombia, El Salvador, Argentina, Peru and 27 people from Guatemala. registered for the Diploma course. Some of the foreign volunteers were unable to attend the practical session, and make-up workshops were planned in their home countries to complete the practical training.
