Several years ago, the Sathya Sai Centre of Bologna began working with a group of volunteers led by Don Giovanni Nicolini, parish priest of St. Anthony of Padua’s Church at La Dozza, near Bologna. The volunteers supported an initiative, known as Piano Freddo (Cold Weather Plan), to provide local refugees and homeless people with shelter and hot meals during the chilly winter months of December through March. Members of the Sathya Sai Centre of Bologna prepared vegetarian meals and served dinner to more than 200 people on the second Saturday of each month, with the help of 15 volunteers from the parish.
Sathya Sai volunteers from the Triveneto region served Easter dinner to the homeless in Verona on 27th March 2016, at a location known as Amici di Paolo Favale (Friends of Paolo Favale). With the cooperation of professional caterers from Milan, 20 volunteers from the Sathya Sai Centres of Conegliano, Mestre, Bolzano, and Verona participated in this service opportunity. Families of children participating in the Sai Spiritual Education (SSE) programme in Northern Italy and Canton Ticino in Switzerland attended a meeting at the Mother Sai House, in Varallo Pombia, near Milan, on 13th March 2016. On 17th January and 14th February 2016, the SSIO of Italy organised educational workshops for families participating in SSE programmes, at the Mother Sai House near Milan. About 40 participants were divided into several age groups. The children engaged in various educational activities focusing on the core of Sathya Sai’s teachings on the five human values, as well as practising the principles of “Ceiling on Desires” and “Love All, Serve All.” Read More
On 20th October 2015, 15 volunteers from Sathya Sai Centres in the Lombardy region offered services to refugees at a homeless shelter near Milan. Food and clothing for children and infants were distributed to 120 families seeking asylum from war-torn areas of Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. Members of the SSIO of Italy also gave bags of sweets and flower-shaped bonbons to about 35 of the youngest children.
At least 200 SSIO members from southern Europe, Zone 6, attended a Pre-World Conference at Mother Sai House near Milan, Italy, from 1st–3rd May 2015.
