Swami’s 88th Birthday has profound significance for Japanese devotees, since “88” is pronounced as “Baba,” or “Haha,” meaning “mother” in Japanese. About 170 people attended Bhagawan’s Birthday celebrations at the Tokyo Sathya Sai Centre. The altar was decorated in gold, silver and red, and a swing decorated with colourful fresh flowers was offered to Bhagawan.

A drama titled “Loving God” was performed by SSE students and concluded with a devotional song by the children. A documentary film about Swami titled “Message of the Lord,” which had been dubbed in Japanese, was shown. The programme concluded with a newly written Japanese devotional song and the screening of a video of Swami from the 1988 Birthday celebration.
