Between 23rd February and 2nd March 2019, an international team of SSIO doctors and medical specialists screened over 60 patients for uterine fibroids surgery in Guyana. Supported by the Government of Guyana and the Ministry of Public Health, the on-going Fibroid Project has successfully led to over 140 uterine fibroid and 5 urological surgeries since 2013. This year, 22 uterine fibroid surgeries were performed with a 100% success rate. Doctors also donated medical supplies to the local hospital and saw other patients. The true measure of success of this project was seeing the happy, smiling faces of the patients and their families. On the final day of the service project, SSIO volunteers distributed 80 grocery hampers to the community in Berbice.
