The need for uterine fibroids surgeries was first brought to the attention of the SSIO of Guyana in August 2012 following the Divine Showers Youth Convention, which was attended by His Excellency Donald Ramotar, President of Guyana. At the President’s urging, arrangements for the services of an international medical team of Sathya Sai devotees from the USA were finalised in early 2013 in close cooperation with government authorities.

Two Sathya Sai medical teams from the USA, with four to five volunteers in each team, performed 52 uterine fibroid surgeries in Georgetown Hospital and West Demerara Hospital in Guyana from 8th to 23rd November 2013. Every surgery performed was successful, and not a single patient screened for surgery was left out. The patients diagnosed with fibroids had been waiting patiently for 4 to 7 years. Consequently, many of them had very large uterine fibroids with multiple adhesions and lesions, which led to complicated surgeries lasting over 3 hours in many cases.
