Ten Young Adult (YA) volunteers from two Victorian Regions of Australia undertook a novel service project to help the seniors. Based on research on the benefits of plants on mental health, they converted plastic bottles into clear, enclosed plastic terrariums (containers) for housing plants. Then, they went to old-age homes and distributed the terrariums so that the elderly could grow and enjoy the plants. Many residents, who had gardens in their former homes, were delighted to look after the plants in the greenhouse enclosures. In addition, the YAs also made Maracas (a rattle) for the residents, so that they could accompany the musical performances at the facility. Thus, the youth and the seniors shared a bond of love and joy.
