On 28th April 2019, Group 3 and 4 Sai Spiritual Education (SSE) students in the Sathya Sai Baba Centre of South Bethesda in Maryland served tofu burritos, yogurt, juice, and fruit, along with other foods, to residents of the Helping Hands, a centre for homeless women and children. The project was led by a Group 3 SSE student, with others in support. Along with the food, SSIO members also donated gifts and cards. The operations manager of the Helping Hands shelter sent a letter to express her gratitude. The children were extremely happy, with many saying that they learned core values such as compassion and empathy, along with the importance of unity and cooperation. They were inspired by the experience and committed to continue to serve the community.
