In northern Sri Lanka, on 18th January 2019, 15 SSIO young adult volunteers, along with school children, planted trees in public areas not affected by floods during the recent monsoons. Parents and teachers appreciated the tree planting initiative as they felt that it gave the children a platform to serve the community at large. Young Adult volunteers also learned an important lesson about the vital role trees play in preventing erosion, mitigating the adverse effects of floods, as well as maintaining balance in nature.
