On 12th January 2018, the Department of Social Welfare of the Attica Region, Ministry of Labour, Social Insurance, and Social Solidarity, awarded an honorary plaque to the SSIO of Greece. The honour recognises the selfless service of SSIO members at the Medical Centre for Chronic Diseases in Agia Varvara, Athens, and the Recovery & Rehabilitation Centre of Children with Disabilities in Voula, Attica. In an acceptance speech, Ms. Maria Filippakou-Sofikiti, President, Sathya Sai Centre of Athens, commented, “Every one of our volunteers has a common goal: to love, serve, and respect every being. It is our duty to meet the needs of the distressed and alleviate their pain, regardless of religion, race, or colour. It is a pleasure for us to engage in activities which alleviate human suffering.”
