On May 10, 2026, SSSIO members across Australia participated in the annual Mother’s Day Classic nationwide to raise awareness of the need for breast and ovarian cancer research.
In Brisbane, families, YAs, SSE children and a much-loved dog gathered at the South Bank Cultural Court. The group chanted the Sai Gayatri prayer before beginning the walk along the Brisbane River. The atmosphere was joyful and uplifting, and activities at the finish line included face painting, crazy photo booths, and a group photo. A highlight was the annual participation of the 16-year-old pet dog, Snoopy, a cancer survivor, along with his owner.
Members from the Melbourne (Naarm) Center participated in the walk at Alexandra Gardens and The Tan, joining thousands to support cancer victims and their families. Many found an opportunity to personalize commemorative medals in honor of loved ones, creating a powerful sense of empathy and connection to the cause.
In Perth, the walk at Charles Paterson Park honored the sacred role of mothers, grandmothers, and relatives who courageously endured illness and whose love continues to shape lives and communities.

In Sydney, members of the NSW Region met at Parramatta Park and observed a minute of silence as a tribute to “Embrace and Honour” – those impacted by breast and ovarian cancer. The event concluded with reflections shared on Alive FM, a local radio station, by Ms. Durga Siva, who marked her tenth year participating in the Mother’s Day Classic. She said, “The SSSIO aligns naturally with the mission of the Mother’s Day Classic. At the heart of both are selfless service, compassion, and coming together as one community for a greater cause.”
