The SSSIO of New Zealand has supported CUE Haven, a self-sustaining community native forest reserve near Auckland, since 2011. Converted from a 24-hectare dairy and beef farm, the site has been progressively revegetated with native species since 2008 to restore its original forest community.

This reflects Cue Haven’s mission of Cultivating Understanding and Enlightenment, which the SSSIO shares. SSSIO members returned to work at the reserve in March 2026 and again with another group in July, for tree planting, weed removal, and track maintenance. Volunteers describe the work as its own reward, made richer by watching the once-open pasture steadily transform into a thriving forest habitat. CUE Haven featured the SSSIO’s latest visit on its own website, acknowledging the continuing partnership and care for the land.
