In the spirit of interfaith harmony, the Sri Sathya Sai Center of Dallas hosted an Iftar dinner at the Community Unitarian Universalist Church in Plano, Texas, on March 15, 2025. Iftar is the evening meal that breaks the fast for Muslims during the holy month of Ramadan. This special event brought together 100 individuals from diverse faiths, including 40 guests from the Dialogue Institute of Dallas, a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering mutual understanding among different faiths. The Mayor of Plano also attended the event. Upon arrival, guests were invited to view posters and videos highlighting the Dallas Sai Center’s various service initiatives.
The program began with Mr. Alex Grana, Vice-President of the SSSIO-USA, who elaborated on Sri Sathya Sai Baba’s teachings. He emphasized the unity of faiths, selfless service, the five human values, and the commonalities between Sai teachings and the Muslim faith. Mayor John B. Muns commended the Dallas Sai Center for hosting the event and for their ongoing commitment to serving the community, acknowledging the invaluable contributions of faith-based organizations. A representative from the Police department expressed gratitude for the community’s support. A representative from the Dialogue Institute then described the significance of Ramadan, focusing on self-discipline and reflection. The program continued with a vibrant musical offering by the Young Adults from the Dallas Sai Center, featuring the poetry of Sachal Sarmast and Yunus Emre. A generous Iftar meal, lovingly prepared and served by Sai volunteers, brought the event to a close.
This community event powerfully underscored the importance of interfaith dialogue in strengthening community bonds. Continuing this spirit of collaboration, the Young Adults from the Dallas Sai Center were later invited to another Ramadan event hosted by the Dialogue Institute, paving the way for new friendships and collaboration in the future.
