On July 3, 2025, members of the Sri Sathya Sai Center of Northeast Atlanta, GA, volunteered at Doghead Farm, a half-acre urban farm dedicated to growing vegetables for marginalized communities. The service activity was organized by Concrete Jungle, an organization that farms and improves food access throughout Georgia. About 99% of the produce harvested is distributed to local food banks that directly serve food-insecure communities across Georgia. Eleven Sai volunteers, including several seniors, joined community members to harvest fruits and vegetables that might otherwise have gone to waste. The volunteers were divided into two groups: one focused on mulching and preparing vegetable beds for planting, while the other harvested cucumbers and beans and removed weeds. The volunteers also inspected plants for bugs, removing them by hand to ensure the vegetables maintain their organic integrity. After being harvested, the vegetables were washed for distribution to food banks.

Despite the strenuous work, the volunteers found the experience incredibly rewarding, knowing their efforts helped households facing food insecurity. The volunteers plan to repeat the activity next month, showing their ongoing commitment to support local farms and communities.
