In observance of Earth Day, members of the Sri Sathya Sai Center of Central San Jose, California, helped children at Voices Academy build a raised vegetable bed and beautify the school with flowering plants. Truckloads of mulch were brought to the school, and parents generously donated various seasonal plants. Students learned to grow and care for plants and vegetables lovingly and developed a keen interest in eating their grown vegetables. A cooking workshop on preparing meals with vegetables from their school “salsa box” is being planned.

Various fun activities to teach the children sustainable practices were also organized, including how to create soap solutions using everyday ingredients, reuse, recycle, and compost, and prepare healthy meals like smoothies.
