Since September 2021, volunteers from the Sri Sathya Sai Center of Columbia have worked alongside Catholic Charities to provide meals, housing, and transportation to refugee families from Afghanistan. The volunteers have provided hot vegetarian meals and transportation to 30 Afghan families. In November 2021, the volunteers distributed cooking supplies, bathing supplies, groceries, and other items to five families. Three volunteers helped clean a house, and a Young Adult volunteer reflected that it was a fulfilling experience to help the refugees. Winter clothing was also distributed among the refugee families.

Volunteers have recently begun arranging baby showers for pregnant refugee women. A post-pregnancy and youth center was also created, and volunteers plan to offer educational services and English as a Second Language (ESL) classes for adults. The Director of Refugee Services at Catholic Charities was very appreciative of the support from the SSSIO volunteers and was amazed by their love and determination.
