Volunteers from the Sri Sathya Sai Center of Baltimore served people impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic by harvesting vegetables at the First Fruits Farm in Freeland, Maryland. The First Fruits Farm, a non-profit Christian ministry, provides fresh, nutritious produce to those experiencing hunger in the Mid-Atlantic region. In July 2020, more than 1,400 pounds of bell peppers and tomatoes were harvested. In September 2020, with assistance from a local church, SSSIO volunteers harvested over 5,000 pounds of corn and about 4,000 pounds of potatoes. This harvest service is gratifying because all the produce from the farm goes directly to the people who need it most. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many families were suffering and getting fresh food was especially challenging for some low-income families.
