For the last 25 years, volunteers from the Sathya Sai Centre of Dallas, Texas have delivered hot and cold meals to nearly 15 home-bound seniors every Friday as part of the Visiting Nurse Association’s (VNA) Meals-on-Wheels programme. Meal delivery services on special holidays such as Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day tend to draw a huge number of Sai volunteers. On Christmas Day in 2019, 130 Sai Centre members arrived at 5 a.m. in the morning to organize and stack coolers filled with nearly 4,000 meals prepared by the VNA staff. The meals along with other gifts, were later packed in cars for distribution to seniors. The VNA Christmas Dock Service has become a popular service activity, especially for the older SSE students who are eager to participate. Even former SSE students and SSIO members who have moved away from Dallas, make it a point to attend the service when they come home to visit their families.
