Ten participants from Germany, Austria, Greece, and the Netherlands gathered for a ten-day creative retreat at Sai Prema near Athens, Greece, centered on the theme Demeter and Persephone – The Wisdom of Mother Earth.
The program included daily morning and evening prayers, along with individual creative work such as painting, drawing, mandalas, music composition and rehearsal, photography, and other artistic expressions. Participants chose their own creative focus and methods.
Among the inspiring sessions, Ms. Eleni Kairi delivered two presentations on the spiritual symbolism and inner meaning of the Demeter–Persephone myth. The group also traveled from Athens to visit the ancient sanctuary of Eleusis, a historical site of the Demeter and Persephone mysteries.
Dr. George Bebedelis, Co-chair of the Sri Sathya Sai Scriptural Studies Committee, introduced the participants to Durga Suktam, a Vedic chant honoring the Divine Mother. The group also visited the Athens Sai Center and participated in devotional singing.
Mr. Manos Karakostas, founder of Sai Prema, gave a talk on regenerative agriculture, sharing insights from his work in regenerative organic farming and emphasizing care for the living earth. Additional activities included learning an ancient three-voice song honoring spring deities Leli and Lado, study circles on spiritual topics, and a short workshop on the healing qualities of flowers. One day of silence, with optional fasting, was observed to encourage inner reflection.
On the final evening, participants shared their creative works and reflections with guests from Athens and nearby areas. The program concluded with bhajans and a shared meal. Gratitude and reflections were exchanged the following morning before departure.
