On October 26, 2024, the Sri Sathya Sai Suwa Sevana Cancer Hospice in Hanwella was awarded the prestigious Palliative Care Excellence Award by the College of Palliative Medicine of Sri Lanka.
Inaugurated on July 6, 2002, the Hospice has provided quality end-of-life care for terminally ill cancer patients who cannot otherwise be adequately supported. Nestled in a serene environment on a 3.5-acre rubber plantation, this sacred space has provided loving palliative care to over 500 patients, ensuring they experience dignity and comfort during their final days.
The Hospice operates as a model of high-quality palliative care, embodying a team-oriented approach that includes expert medical care, pain management, and psychological support. A dedicated team of doctors, nurses, and support staff are available at all hours to provide personalized attention to every patient, regardless of age, religion, or race.
The award was presented during the Induction Ceremony of the 4th President of the College of Palliative Medicine of Sri Lanka at the Hilton Colombo Residencies. This esteemed recognition honors organizations that have made remarkable contributions to palliative care, recognizing their commitment to enhancing the quality and accessibility of compassionate care and support for patients and their families.
