The Australian SSSIO successfully hosted two in-person workshops on Reflective Clinical Practice for Healthcare Workers in May 2024. The theme, Reconnecting with the Heart of Healthcare, resonated with the participants–19 in Sydney and 11 in Canberra. The workshops were led by Dr. Rajat Gyaneshwar and Dr. Swaran Naidu of Fiji, eminently qualified and experienced professionals, who designed engaging activities for the 3-hour sessions. The curriculum covered crucial aspects of patient care, including respectful care, self-care for effective practice, negotiating challenging times, clinical risk management, and values for ethical practice, following Sai Ideal Healthcare tenets.

The workshops received enthusiastic feedback from participants. A Senior Occupational Therapist appreciated the focus on the “spiritual depth” of clinical practice, emphasizing the importance of strength and vulnerability while caring for a patient in pain. They described the workshop as “powerful and spiritual” and felt it made them a better clinician. A medical student also found the workshop valuable, gaining helpful tips from the presenters.

Overall, the SSSIO workshops provided a valuable learning experience for Australian healthcare workers, encouraging them to reflect on their practice and reconnect with the core values of their profession.
