The SSSIO of Australia & PNG (Papua New Guinea) has been a proud supporter of the national Clean Up Australia initiative for many years. This annual event mobilizes communities and businesses to remove waste and improve the environment.
This year, the event was held on March 3, 2024. In Wembley, Western Australia, 11 SSSIO adults and 9 SSE children joined forces with the community to clean a local park. Similarly, in Telopea, New South Wales, 15 SSSIO members and their children collected 30 bags of waste from a parkland area. In Queensland, about 40 SSSIO members and children tackled litter in Victoria Park, while a separate group of Young Adults cleaned streets in Fortitude Valley.
Beyond the clean-up itself, a key focus of the SSSIO is fostering environmental awareness and care in the children. Youngsters actively assisted in the clean-up while engaging in fun learning activities that expanded their understanding of environmental issues and inspired proactive involvement in protecting our planet.
