On Saturday, 23rd June 2013, the SSIO of Southern California in coordination with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, organised a first annual Bonita-National City Community Free Health Screening Day in Bonita, California. About 300 Sathya Sai volunteers, 30 medical professionals covering nine specialties, “Friends in Sight” volunteers from the Lions Club and dental students and dental assistants from local schools, provided loving services. A total of 210 needy patients received medical care including 118 primary care, 116 dental, and 160 for vision services. Laboratory services provided at the camp included 57 blood tests and 5 peak pulmonary flow tests. One hundred twenty-nine patients with abnormal results were referred to clinics for follow-up medical work. A total of 102 ladies received gynecological exams, bone density tests, mammograms and Pap-smear testing. Vision services included complete eye examinations, and 144 patients received free prescription eyeglasses. In addition to health screening services, the camp provided families and individuals with hygiene kits and bags of food containing jars of peanut butter and jelly, rice, beans and other dry food items.
