The Mother’s Day Classic Walk in Australia is dedicated to raising awareness and funds for breast and ovarian cancer research. Since its beginning in 1998 with runs held in Sydney and Melbourne, it has expanded to become the country’s largest run and walk, attracting tens of thousands of participants annually.
The Ladies Wing of the Sri Sathya Sai International Organization (SSSIO) Australia has supported this event for several years and officially adopted it in 2018, following the ACT (Australian Capital Territory) Region’s involvement in 2017. This year, 61 members from five different SSSIO regions once again took part in the walk on May 11, 2025. Many joined as families, showcasing a strong sense of community and unity. The walk was a lively event, filled with colorful costumes, entertainment, and a joyful atmosphere. However, the celebration had a profound and heartfelt purpose — to honor those affected by cancer, remember loved ones lost to cancer, and support vital research to fight cancer.
Participants shared their thoughts and experiences. One first-time walker found the event deeply inspiring, praising the unity and dedication of the Sai community and others. A breast cancer survivor spoke about how meaningful the walk has been for her since going into remission, drawing strength from the shared hope and support of the community.
Several mothers reflected on how walking together not only honored mothers everywhere but also reinforced the values of love, service, and connection that are central to the Sai family. Male participants spoke of the spiritual significance of the day, expressing gratitude for the nurturing love symbolized both by their earthly mothers and by the divine feminine.
Children from the Sai Spiritual Education (SSE) program brought joy and enthusiasm, enjoying fun activities like face painting and refreshments after the walk.
In summary, the Mother’s Day Classic Walk provided the SSSIO community with a powerful opportunity to unite, show compassion, and contribute to an important cause.
