A Sathya Sai volunteer, who is an agronomist, assisted by his three sons, planted an organic garden for orphaned children in San José, Costa Rica, in June 2012. The orphans learned to tend a garden and grow their own food, along with principles of sustainability. They planted various kinds of vegetables, such as spinach, radish, beans, corn and carrots, and herbal plants such as oregano, rosemary and thyme. The children learned to eat healthy food and were proud and happy to eat from their own garden, planted by themselves. The project inspired self-confidence, satisfaction and enthusiasm among the 14 orphans who participated.
