Volunteers from the Sathya Sai Centre of Atlanta along with Friends of Refugees, a local non-profit organisation, recently helped one of the largest refugee communities in the USA, located in Clarkston, Georgia. Despite settling in countries considered safe and stable, refugees face challenges such as language barriers and unemployment in a new country. A team of ten SSIO Young Adult volunteers and several SSE students created a six-week programme to help the participants develop job skills for potential employment. The course involved training the refugees in computer literacy such as basic typing and computer skills, and resume-building. Many participants worked at multiple jobs and night shifts and came from long distances to attend the course. They demonstrated an intense commitment to learn new skills and their progress was heart-warming. This humanitarian project made the Young Adult volunteers realise how blessed they were to live in a peaceful environment and enjoy freedom.
