Sixteen ladies from Auckland traveled to Hamilton on May 31, 2026, for a ladies’ gathering, where nine ladies from Hamilton taught them to make bags filled with buckwheat – small bags to be used as a heating pad after being warmed in a microwave. Within three hours, the group worked harmoniously and made 25 buckwheat-bag heating pads, singing bhajans and sharing morning tea and lunch prepared by the volunteers at the Hamilton Center.

Over the past two years, the Ladies Wing of SSSIO, New Zealand has been lovingly making these heating pads at the Bay of Plenty (BOP) Region’s Hamilton Center for the oncology wards of local hospitals. In fact, in honor of Swami’s 100th Birthday, they prepared 100 buckwheat-bag heating pads and donated them to the BOP hospitals. This initiative has proved inspiring and is now being adopted by the Northern Region of SSSIO New Zealand, with training assistance from the ladies in Hamilton. In July 2026, the Northern Region completed and delivered an additional 27 buckwheat-bag heating pads to the Auckland Hospital’s Oncology Ward. Their goal is to establish a regular donation program, possibly twice a year, for hospitals in the Auckland area.
