The Public Library of Bjelovar hosted a public event on April 19, 2023, to celebrate a book, The Gift Greatest Of All, written by a local author, Slobodanka Martan, and published by the SSSIO of Croatia. The book, a testament to the transformative power of human values, presents six plays that not only celebrate acceptance and inclusivity but also spread love and joy among all. The author’s unwavering dedication to these values, inspired by her childhood encounters with children with special needs, is truly remarkable. Actively involving her students, friends, and family, Martan organized visits to a special local school where they performed these plays and shared heartfelt moments with the students. She also extended her outreach to other audiences, including kindergartens, elementary schools, and SSSIO gatherings, leaving an indelible impact on all who encountered her work.
Martan has been applauded for her unique contribution to Croatian literature, and in particular, to education. Her previous work, Where did my nose disappear? is also noteworthy. This is a compilation of puppet shows published by the Bjelovar Theatre.
