SSIO volunteers in Croatia have served the impoverished in the village of Letovanic on the banks of the river Kupa since 2014. On 17th February 2018, they served food and distributed warm blankets, duvets and hygiene kits to various disadvantaged families. In addition, SSIO members purchased and installed a washing machine for a family in which the wife was partially paralysed due to multiple strokes. They also hired a local craftsman to fabricate and install a railing outside the house of an unemployed single mother. In an act of kindness to animals, SSIO volunteers provided a warm and comfortable winter for four-legged inhabitants of the village as well: the volunteers provided straw-filled quarters for a dog living on the street, constructed a shelter for a puppy that had been sleeping in a half-split rusty barrel and provided food and canine treats for the dogs.
