Every August since 2013, members of the Sri Sathya Sai Center of Columbia, MO, distribute backpacks with essential school supplies to elementary-grade students from refugee and immigrant families and children in foster care. They also provide several new clothing items, such as socks and undergarments. The items are distributed through a nonprofit, the City of Refuge, which is grateful for Sai volunteers’ generosity in helping them warmly welcome refugees and immigrants. Sai volunteers, in turn, feel gratified that the backpacks will bring the students immense joy and educational benefits.
