About ten volunteers from the Sri Sathya Sai Center of Mesa, Arizona partnered with a local organization to pick up excess produce from three large grocery stores and drop off at two food banks – the Mom’s Pantry Food Bank and Andre House Hospitality Center. Through this service, the volunteers could utilize 150 to 200 pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables as well as baked goods. Not only did the volunteers provide food that would otherwise be wasted, but they also helped the environment by reducing landfill waste.

One young adult volunteer said, “Volunteering with several people who selflessly dedicate time and energy to this project weekly is inspirational. Dedicating two hours each Saturday morning to transport food to end hunger and food waste makes a meaningful difference in my life.” A staff volunteer at Andre House reflected, “Donations of healthy food such as fresh vegetables as well as tasty snack are greatly appreciated. Our aim is to serve healthy nutritious food, and donations of this caliber make all the difference!”
