Record winter snowfall in 2017 and subsequent heavy rains and flash flooding forced a state of emergency in the city of Montreal. On 8th May 2017, young adults of the Sathya Sai Centre of St. Hubert began providing humanitarian relief at the City of Vaudreuil, which was among the areas hardest hit. The youth spent nine hours filling sandbags at stations set up by the city. Volunteers worked in teams filling the bags of sand and stacking them for homeowners who needed them. They also helped build walls to contain and divert rising waters. The experience was emotionally and physically challenging for the volunteers, who also comforted families who lost their homes.
