The SSIO of Northern California celebrated Sathya Sai Baba’s Birthday on Sunday, 20th November 2016, with a programme themed, “Living HIS Message: Love and Service.” The interfaith event attracted 700 SSIO members as well as guests from other faith-based groups. Two important initiatives were discussed, namely, living Baba’s teachings daily and expanding our understanding of different faiths while appreciating the unity of their core values. The session began with Sathya Sai Baba’s teachings that love and service form the common underpinning of all faiths. Representatives of Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, Sikhism, and the Zoroastrian faiths discussed the topics of Love and Service. The programme opened with a peace song, titled “Peace, Salaam, Shalom,” along with melodious chants and songs from various faiths, all rendered beautifully. The session concluded with an offering of songs by the SSE students. As the day ended, a beautiful rainbow appeared in the sky, with all seven colours clearly visible, which was taken as a divine blessing of the seven faiths that were celebrated.
