Members of the Sri Sathya Sai Center of Greater of St. Louis meet regularly on the first and third Saturdays every month to prepare and distribute meals to the elderly residents in the Soulard neighborhood near downtown St. Louis. Sai volunteers have maintained this service activity for over three decades. On the day of the service, a few volunteers prepare trays of delicious pasta along with corn and mixed vegetables. The trays of freshly cooked food are then delivered to the Sai Center of Greater St. Louis, further packed into food containers, and placed in brown paper bags along with juice, fruits, cereal, crackers, cookies, juice, and cookies. Six volunteers distribute the packed meal bags to Soulard residents, many of whom are elderly or disabled. The elderly and lonely residents greet the volunteers with beaming faces, warm hugs, and benedictions such as, “God Bless you.”
