As part of the Adoption of Communities Worldwide initiative, Sri Sathya Sai volunteers in Kenya adopted the Gichagi village, located in the Ngong region of Kajiado County. To ease the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on families, the volunteers collaborated with a team from the Manji Foundation in May of 2020 to distribute hampers to 500 beneficiaries. In all, 300 hampers were prepared, each containing 2 kgs of Unga (maize meal), 1 kg of beans, 1 kg of salt, and 1 kg of cooking fat. An additional 200 hampers were prepared with each containing 2 kgs of Unga and 1 kg of salt. In an effort to meet sanitation needs, 400 masks and 300 female hygiene products were also provided to the village members.
Apart from the village adoption, SSIO Kenya has also focused its efforts on providing secondary education for children in the North Laikipia village, and providing food, as well as conducting SSEHV (Sathya Sai Education in Human Values) classes in the Kangemi, Kawagware, and Kibera villages.
