SSSIO volunteers of the Sri Sathya Sai Center of Austin, Texas, helped Afghan refugees set up a community garden to help them grow their own food. Sai Spiritual Education (SSE) children planted seeds of a variety of vegetables in starter pods and watered them until tiny seedlings were sprouting. Over three weekends in April 2022, 15 adults and 13 children transplanted the saplings to a donated backyard. For the Afghan refugee women, tending to the garden together and reaping the harvest help them adjust as they forged new friendships and made a meaningful contribution to their community.
