Responding to the hardship faced by residents of Lake Charles, Louisiana, who were impacted by Hurricanes Laura and Delta, SSSIO volunteers across USA stepped in to assist with the procurement of various essential food and supplies. On November 19, 2020, coinciding with the Thanksgiving holiday, 15 SSSIO volunteers from the South-Central Region of USA distributed Thanksgiving pies, 540 bags of food containing rice, beans, canned vegetables, pasta, tomato sauce, and blankets to a few hundred families.
SSSIO volunteers prepared and handed out 150 boxed hot lunches consisting of pasta and salad at a local church. They also distributed snack bags filled with chips, cookies, energy bars, fresh fruit, juice, and water.
In Creole, Louisiana, volunteers provided food and blankets to approximately 50 families and sponsored a lunch for the recipients in collaboration with the Lions Club of Cameron. Several community leaders worked alongside the SSSIO volunteers to distribute food items and blankets. A member of the Christian Baptist Church in Lake Charles expressed gratitude to the SSSIO on behalf of the community, stating, “We are so grateful to the Sai volunteers who have been blessing us every week by donating things to the Lake Charles community that they need. We are deeply grateful that they have traveled so far from Houston, Austin and Dallas every week.” The visit by the SSSIO volunteers to Creole, Louisiana, was covered in the local newspaper.
