On 9th March 2019, SSIO volunteers organised a free health screening camp in Corona, California, where 45 physicians, dentists, nurses and ancillary staff, along with SSIO members provided medical, dental and vision services to more than 500 patients. The patients came primarily from the surrounding low-income neighbourhood, and received 428 lab tests, 47 mammograms and 65 pap smear tests. In the dental department, 170 patients received dental cleaning and fluoride varnishes; 95 patients were referred for further consultation at a low-cost clinic. Partnering with the Lion’s Club’s “Friends in Sight”, 412 patients were examined in the vision department and 326 patients received eyeglasses. The patients were overjoyed to receive loving, high-quality medical care and social services. Their smiling faces reflected their joy in receiving medical care after years of neglect in receiving healthcare, which was unaffordable.
