On 5th August 2018, in response to a rise in road fatalities, more than 200 SSIO volunteers of Mauritius, including 75 SSE students, participated in a road safety awareness walk from Vacoas to the Municipal Council of Quatre Bornes. Those walking carried aloft posters and slogans to draw the attention of anyone in the vicinity, including drivers and pedestrians. The Mayor of the Municipal Council of Quatre Bornes participated in the walk to show his appreciation, and the local television broadcasting station provided media coverage. The event ended with the participants taking an oath to promote safety on the roads and abide by traffic laws.
