On 5th March 2017, the Sathya Sai Baba Community Centre in Vancouver, British Columbia, held its first health screening and disease prevention workshop. SSIO young adults collaborated with seven SSIO members and seven others to host the event, which began with a general cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk assessment, conducted by physicians and medical students of the University of British Columbia (UBC). The procedure included measurements of blood pressure, body mass index (BMI), hip to waist ratio, and a CVD risk score, using the Mayo Clinic Risk Assessment Tool. Following the screening, approximately 100 participants attended three interactive educational sessions presented by physicians on the topics of diet, exercise, and stress management. The speakers used practical examples from Sathya Sai Baba’s teachings and tailored their suggestions to the specific needs of the audience.
