On 10th December 2016, SSIO members organised an Annual Christmas and Hanukkah celebration at the Unity Church in Newbury Park, Southern California. The programme opened with the lighting of a Menorah, to commemorate Hanukkah, followed by a brief explanation about this Jewish ceremony, a Hebrew prayer, and a popular Jewish song. The two-hour devotional programme included Biblical stories with scripture readings, followed by Christmas carols illustrating each passage read. SSE students performed a skit depicting similarities between the births of Sathya Sai Baba and Jesus Christ. A long-time SSIO member shared her experiences with Baba and delighted the audience with personal anecdotes. Participants also contributed hygiene items for needy students attending schools in low-income areas of Southern California.
