The river Bagmati, which flows past the Pashupati temple, is believed to be a sacred river, and many people bathe in it every day. Unfortunately, the river is very polluted and unhygienic. To address this issue, the former Chief Secretary of the Government of Nepal started a drive to clean the river. Each weekend, thousands of people took part, including volunteers from the SSIO. In recognition of this noble service, a certificate of appreciation was awarded to the SSIO of Nepal on 4th July 2015 for cleaning the river.
