Mauritius has the second-highest prevalence of breast cancer in Africa, with 500 newly diagnosed cases in the past three years. To address this need, the SSSIO of Mauritius, in collaboration with Breast Cancer Care, held a breast cancer screening on December 4, 2022, at Le Foyer de Notre Dame de La Paix, a nursing home for the elderly in Vacoas. Medical professionals explained the importance of early detection and intervention, after which 25 women aged 50 to 97 were screened based on their family history and gynecological record. Nearly 30% of the nursing home residents were referred to a local hospital for an ultrasound and further consultation.
