Torrential rainfall in December 2019 triggered widespread flooding in several villages in the northern and eastern provinces of Sri Lanka, displacing more than 30,000 people. About 45 SSIO volunteers in the eastern region of Sri Lanka, including 15 young adults, jumped into action to provide dry rations, Panadol cards, candles, matches, and clothes to 480 families in the villages of  Maavilanguthurai in Arayampathi DS division, Koralaipattu West, Vadamunai LB, Vadamunai RB, Uththuchenai and 4th Colony in Veeramunai. Some of these villages had been previously adopted by the SSIO under the Sri Sathya Sai Village Improvement Programme.
