In May 2018 SSIO volunteers from New Zealand including medical professionals lovingly served over 3,300 people at medical camps organised in the remote islands of Ovalau, Koro and Gnau, in addition to the main island in Fiji. The volunteers travelled to these islands in a ship provided by a local shipping business. In addition to comprehensive health screening, healthcare services included gastroenterology, women’s health services, optometry, dentistry, physiotherapy, nutrition counselling and diabetes screening. The physicians wrote over 2,000 prescriptions and supplied nearly 4,000 medicines, free of charge. SSIO volunteers thanked local volunteers who helped organise the medical camp.
