On June 29, 2024, the Young Adults (YAs) of SSSIO Hong Kong organized a beach cleanup at Starfish Bay in collaboration with Beyond Plastic Hong Kong, an NGO (Non-Government Organization) that aims to reduce single-use plastic pollution. Over 3,000 people have participated in these monthly beach clean-ups, collecting over 50,000 kgs of plastic waste. Seven YAs, two Sai Spiritual Education children, and four seniors toiled for two hours in the extreme heat and collected plastic bags, aluminum cans, Styrofoam boards, and glass bottles. In the process, the participants learned the importance of placing a ceiling on desires, doing their part in reducing plastic use, and protecting the planet for future generations.
