A group of enterprising individuals in the SSSIO-USA, Region 8, launched the “Love All Serve All” (LASA) food truck initiative to address the issue of food insecurity among the homeless in Los Angeles. The concept seemed simple: rent a food truck, gather volunteers, drive to various parts of the city, and serve nutritious meals to those in need.

However, they faced many challenges – from obtaining a food truck license to renting a truck, which was extremely cost-prohibitive. Divine guidance led them to partner with the owners of a food truck who have been serving hot meals for thirty years to college students who could not afford lunch.

The inaugural event on August 18, 2024, was a success. With great excitement, Sai volunteers created a simple, warm vegan meal of macaroni and cheese loaded with veggies and crispy corn chips and served in compostable containers, along with refreshing lemonade. As soon as they parked the truck and displayed their “Love All Serve All’ sign, people eagerly formed a line. There were families with children, single people on bikes, and others in wheelchairs. Volunteers provided food to 140 people in underserved neighborhoods of Los Angeles, including the Skid Row. In just 45 minutes, they ran out of food. The team plans to expand its efforts, with a goal of serving 250 people the following month. The LASA food truck initiative shows how compassion, along with an enterprising spirit, can make a significant impact on addressing hunger within the community.
