SSSIO volunteers from the Midwest Region of the USA adopted the World Bird Sanctuary in Valley Park, Missouri in 2020. The Sanctuary aims to preserve biodiversity and secure bird species through education and conservation. More than 200 birds from 60 species are housed in the Sanctuary, and it has also treated over 500 birds at their Bird Hospital.
Sai Volunteers provided needed supplies, landscaping work, outdoor avian exhibits, and birdhouses to support the hospital and their rehabilitated birds. Once the Sanctuary opened again during the pandemic, the volunteers helped remove an old Avian exhibit and transported it to a recycling destination. As a token of gratitude, the Sanctuary awarded the SSSIO the Marlin Perkins Award for its spirit of environmental dedication.
