The town of Ladysmith in the Northern part of KwaZulu-Natal was seriously affected by floods in early 2022 as a result of torrential rains, lasting over a week. Several homes and businesses

which are situated in close proximity to the Klip river which flows through the town were damaged or destroyed.

Members of the Sri Sathya Sai Center of Ladysmith joined emergency relief efforts initiated by a group of 11 Non-Government Organizations to assist the local residents. Approximately 200 people had to be relocated to a nearby Indoor Sports Stadium where they were temporarily housed and given beds, food, blankets, hygiene packs, and other necessities. The Ladysmith Sai Centre members provided 150 hot lunch packs to the displaced people which was gratefully received.

On January 26, 2022, a total of 25 large grocery and food hampers were distributed to people in the Thembelihle Area, which is situated on the outskirts of the town. The hampers contained enough food and grocery items to sustain the recipients and their families for two weeks.

Subsequently, an assessment revealed that 12 homes were structurally damaged by the floods. The members of the Ladysmith Sai Centre are helping with the reconstruction of the damaged sections of the houses, in cooperation with others.
