The Sri Sathya Sai Center of Atlantic City, New Jersey, continued to serve the homeless during the pandemic by setting up a portable tent in a parking lot. Face masks and bagged lunches containing sandwiches, fruit, and water were distributed to the homeless.
In July 2021, a local volunteer helped secure a sizeable mobile food van. The “Hope One” van was used to contact people who were homeless and suffering from substance abuse disorders, as well as to distribute COVID-19 test kits and other resources. The van had a kitchen, which was used to serve hot meals and food to more than 50 people during the pandemic in 2021. This year, the van has served about 150 needy people.
