On 27 April 2019, in honour of Earth Day, 50 SSIO volunteers including young adults and children from the Sathya Sai Centre of Toronto-York planted trees at Milliken Park, as part of an event organised by the City of Toronto. SSIO volunteers learnt about tree-planting from the city staff. In collaboration with others, a total of 750 to 1,000 native trees and shrubs were planted across a designated field in Milliken Park at Scarborough. Biodegradable mats were placed around each tree and covered with mulch to assist in their growth. The event helped Toronto move forward towards their goal of achieving 40% green canopy cover in the city.
